Distinguished Alumni Corner

Following extensive consultations and thoughtful consideration, I am delighted to announce the recipient of BHSSAANA’s prestigious title of Distinguished Alumnus for the year 2025/2026: Deacon Samuel Ogunsola Olaniyi Togunde, a proud member of the Class of 1969.
My personal connection with Deacon Togunde dates back to January 1969, when, as a member of the 1968 set, we transitioned from the Elam Memorial Campus back to the main campus at Idi Araba. Though modest in stature, he stood out—always impeccably dressed in a crisply ironed shirt and shorts, his school uniform was a testament to discipline and pride. Among his peers, he was unmistakably noticeable. As the Labor and Food Prefect, Deacon Togunde carried out his responsibilities with remarkable diligence, humility, and respect for all. He took his role seriously, and one enduring mystery remains: how he managed to keep his uniform spotless and perfectly pressed five days a week—even in Saki, where electricity was non-existent and our organic companions were the unpleasant powdery flakes of dirt blown by the harmattan wind!
His academic journey took him through several esteemed institutions, including the University of Ife (IAR&T) Akure, the University of Ibadan, and the University of Ilorin. His professional career spans decades in research and education, culminating in his distinguished retirement from the Oyo State Public Service as Permanent Secretary (School Administration). He continues to hold leadership roles across various organizations.
Since assuming the role of National President of our Alumni Association, Deacon Togunde has exemplified visionary leadership. His tenure has been marked by unprecedented achievements and a spirit of service that is both tireless and inspiring. Under his guidance, numerous projects have been successfully executed, and the synergy between the school administration and the alumni body has reached historic heights.
On this day, Saturday, August 16th, 2025 at the occasion of the 12th Convention of the Baptist High School Alumni Association of North America in Houston, Texas, it is my honor to present Deacon Samuel Ogunsola Olaniyi Togunde as our Distinguished Alumnus.
Please join me in celebrating Deacon Samuel Ogunsola Olaniyi Togunde as our Distinguished Alumnus for 2025/2026. His unwavering commitment to God, education, and humanity continues to inspire us all; and with this recognition, we members of Baptist High School Saki Alumni Association of North America affirm our collective appreciation to the leadership this gentleman has demonstrated and pray for a continuing strength.
