History of the Association

History of BHSSAANA

Baptist High School Alumni Association of North America was officially founded in 2006 in Dallas, Texas. The seed for the founding of the association goes back to 2003 when duos of Dr. Abimbola Abiola and Prof Dejo Afolayan decided to collate the names of their mates while at Baptist High School, Saki. They started the effort to reconnect with former schoolmates, starting with alumni in the New York and Chicago axes. With one alumnus connecting another to the group, Baptist High School Alumni Association of North America was founded in Dallas, Texas in 2006. The foundation members had a strong desire to support one another and do life together. The camaraderie was further inspired by the passing of a notable alumnus, Dr. Larinde Akinyele, about the same period. The founding of the association and first convention in Dallas coincided with the 50th birthday of an alumnus. Founding members include Chief Awolola, Mr Ade Oyelami, Professor Dejo Afolayan, Mr. Ade Bello, Rev Abel Ige, Mr. Akin Oguntona & Mr. Sunday Adegbola. Rev Ige and Professor Afolayan were the founding President and General Secretary, respectively.

Some notable accomplishments of the association since founding includes:

  • Construction of the 16-unit toilets system for the school;
  • Sponsorship of students’ awards;
  • Financial support to the home group for the celebration of the Golden and Diamond Jubilees;
  • Successful annual (lately, biennial) convention providing reunion opportunities for members
